Loss Of A Great Man And Priest
CLBA JOURNAL 2001
By Oba Ernesto Pichardo
March 29, 2001 in New York City,
our brother Theodore (Ted) Holiday –Ifa Dele/Ibu mare, was called back to orun.
Teddy was the first African American bata drummer. He was ordained to the
Lukumi priesthood of Oshun in 1968 by Iyalosha Lillian Paz, in the City of New
York. Approximately eight years ago, he traveled to Ode-Remo, Ogun State,
Nigeria, and was ordained to the priesthood order of Orunmila. In 1997, he made
CLBA history. Ted went to the Church in Hialeah and performed CLBA’s first
traditional marriage helping us to restore a long forgotten sacred event.
We thank Olodumare for the blessing of having this brother among us for so many years, his contributions to the disenfranchised and those suffering from natural disaster in our society, for his humanity, and contributions to our religious community. As he now embraces Orun, we too embrace him in our prayer for his eternal light and his memory will remain with us forever.
