Spiritual Genetics
Genetics is the study and
science that focuses on inheritable traits. In simple terms, we are talking
about certain traits that are passed down through generations. This accounts
for inheritable features in our physical body.
In our secular tradition, science holds to the theory that phenomena, in order to exist, must be positively observed or measured. In essence, the body is seen as a mechanism that can be monitored, altered, and repaired. This scientific perspective in genetics embraces the idea that we are part of a phenomenon that connects us to our ancestors in a unique way. Genes, therefore, share in the responsibility of shaping the human body through traits that come back to life.
The phenomenon of coming back to life is not a new concept in pre-science religious beliefs. If we are to completely connect ourselves with the ancestors, there is a less tangible perspective known as reincarnation. That is, the return of souls and certain associated traits that manifest themselves through the physical body.
Here is what our religious tradition has to say about the reality of spiritual genetic traits:
Eleda, the Guardian Angel and Rebirth
According to the Lukumi/Ayoba faith, the vital self, called eleda, or the guardian angel, is the principal architect of our fortunes. Eleda instructs the soul on what should be done before departing the heavens and making the journey towards earth. Souls that are ready to reincarnate kneel before God and receive their destiny. Eleda seeks out the patron divinity, or orisha, that best fits the assigned destiny and establishes the commitment to protect the incarnated soul during its physical lifetime on earth.
In the Lukumi/Ayoba faith are seen as forces that form the divine council of God. An important function of Eleda is to keep a close vigil over all of our activities. In conjunction with Eleda, the patron divinity works to safeguard us from a world of potential enemies.
Potential enemies may be encountered during our journey from heaven to earth. That is why the ancestors devised a rite referred to as "the identification of the patron divinity" called orisha. The purpose of this rite is to determine early in life the prospects and problems awaiting a newborn through the use of a complex divination system. The rite is also performed for persons of all ages. It serves as a way to identify personal traits. For example, each patron divinity represents human, natural, and supernatural realities in their respective domains.
Traits are divided in groups that form archetypes which correspond to the polarities of the divinities. This means that each of the divinities have his or her own unique dominion over a particular archetype. Once the patron orisha has been established, the path of understanding the inner relationship of a given archetype, and the personal identity within the body, mind, and spirit, becomes fully revealed.
The rite is a guide for understanding our personal spiritual traits that have come back to life. Guidance on how to monitor, alter, and repair the imbalance within the spiritual and physical realities can be obtained and effectively put to practice in a holistic manner. This service is an ideal starting point for anyone who seeks a path in self-enlightenment.
